Allow me to talk to you for a few minutes. Life is not for the timid; to be fearful is to attract intimidation. What do you do when the reality of things contrasts with your expectations?
Listen! Whether you are conscious of this fact or not, there are times things aren't going to go the way you want, even if you are the most prayerful, careful, intelligent, and skillful individual. This phenomenon is just the way life is; it has nothing to do with what you may be doing right or wrong.
Sometimes, even after the best planning, calculations, fasting, and prayers, the reality of certain things may not match your expectations. How you handle such moments is critical to entering your next level.
To a leader, managing such a season with the hope of turning things around is paramount. That's where Jose Mourinho, manager of Chelsea football club, stands at the moment after grabbing just four points in five matches of the first season of the Premier League. As a Chelsea fan, it is disturbing, but the fact is, success is never a smooth path. But one marked by ups and downs.
The immature can't handle such seasons; they grope in despair and frustrations looking for someone to rid them of curses, which in reality don't exist. On the contrary, the mature always emerge better and stronger after such seasons.
What's the way forward?
The way forward is maintaining a quiet and optimistic spirit, while at the same time, learning the lessons the circumstances present to bounce back powerfully and effectively than before. Listening to dis-tractors at such moments is a mere waste of time, but criticism should be welcomed from those with the right credentials and capacity to make valuable input. The truth is, when reality fails to match with our expectations, most people believe it is their opportunity to get on whoever is the "head," to force their opinions on him, even when they have no real insight regarding the situation.
I have come to realize that life has a way of compensating people who overcome tough times by maintaining the right attitude and composure until the reality of things changes to match their expectations. Those who make history in all spheres aren't small-minded people who faced nothing challenging and life-threatening, but people who survived what eliminated others.
A great mind once said, "Success is at the edge of destruction." Successful people aren't people without challenges, but people who surpass their challenges. Strong people are not known in good times, but by their comportment in times of controversy.
Christ said: "In the world, ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome."
Christ didn't promise us a life free from challenges like most believers are taught, but He promised to be with us in our troubles and to lead us to victory. A lack of knowledge on how to handle tough times is the reason many in the church today have become perpetual prayer collectors.
To live effectively, it is vital to learn how to survive in the evil day. As you step into this new week, I wish you God's wisdom to turn your setbacks into setups for a comeback.
Cheers!
