Few individuals in every generation are called to follow the Lord up the mountain. Why the mountain top? The mountain top is a reserved environment;only very few individuals can make it there. It is not a place for the crowd, but for individuals who mean serious business. Secondly, the mountain top is a place of vision; it is possible to see farther from a mountain top. Thirdly, the mountain top is a place for those who can withstand the pressure of the wind and still maintain focus on what got them there.
There are serious kingdom matters Christ doesn't discuss with those who seek him just for bread, healing and deliverance, etc. It’s unfortunate that, most of our churches and ministries today are filled up with such a crowd of people. They come for the bread and fish and not for the vision of Christ. When bread and fish are over, they pack out to another church/ministry to look for their usual bread and fish. Christ can’t do business with such a crowd of people; they can’t exercise composure to follow Christ up the mountain without causing a nuisance. So, He sends them away while He takes along with him those who mean business and are out for real experience with him.
Those with the desire to be used of God must separate themselves from the crowd to follow the master up the mountain top. "To lead the crowd you must leave the crowd." The ordinary Christianity many practice today is a rottenness to the bones. I wonder how long God would refrain from spewing this Laodicean religion out of his mouth. Christ is still calling even today for those who will pay the price to follow Him up the mountain; would you answer the call? That's the reason for mentorship; taking serious individuals up the mount for greater vision, revelation and a sense of purpose for their generation. Dr.Benard Etta
