(Then cried they all again, saying, Not this man, but Barabbas. Now Barabbas was a robber). John 18:40.
It is God's perfect desire to give every nation true leaders, but he does not impose his will on any nation. He presents to us "Jesus" and "Barabbas,"and leaves the decision in our hands to decide who ultimately becomes our leaders. It is sad when we crucify our saviors and prefer robbers.
Jesus means "Saviour," and Barabbas means "A Robber."
Every nation has both types of individuals beckoning for the opportunity to rule. We either elect or appoint "Saviors" or "Robbers" over our affairs. Remember, we would only have what we ask for, and we shouldn't blame God for what comes after. If we ask for "Barabbas," a robber to head our nation, we can't blame God when he loots our entire resources.
In Africa, it is unfortunate that, people vote massively for "Barabbas " (Robbers), because they can share stolen money to buy their way instead of using it for developmental projects. What a shame!
NB: Any leader with a record to run on doesn't need to bride people to vote for him.
Let me say this to those religious folks who believe that God is responsible for the rise of everyone to power. God didn't elect most of the Presidents we have in Africa; we did, and we are simply paying the price for our lack of better judgement.
God can't be responsible for a president who doesn't have what it takes to lead and provide good governance, but corrupt his way to power. That's why, most of our democratic elections in Africa marked by huge bribery can't give us the true saviors needed to move our nations forward. At times, the church due to blindness, helps in ushering corrupt individuals into power for their own selfish interest. We desperately need an enlightened church to influence the governance of nations in this dispensation. Dr.Benard Etta
